A great way to build self-confidence in kids is to ask them whether they’ve thought about goals they want to reach. If they haven’t, collaborate with them on setting goals that promote positive new habits.
Perhaps a health goal, like trying one new vegetable a week. And you can add it to a smoothie for them to make it painless! This shows kids they are brave and can try new things.
Consider an education goal, like each month, they read a new book or watch a documentary on a topic of their choice. This empowers kids by helping them feel more knowledgeable.
Or a civility goal, like 5 random acts of kindness per week at home, school, or in the community! This helps kids develop empathy and build positive relationships.
A goal-setting conversation with kids shows that you’re confident in their ability to set meaningful goals. And, they build self-confidence when they see that 1) you believe in them and 2) their hard work is paying off.
Also, ask THEM if they have a goal they’d like to see YOU work on. This shows kids that you value their opinions, which in turn boosts their self-esteem.
